A Message to Families
Dear New Bridge Families,
I would like to take the time to introduce myself as the New Bridge Learning Center Preschool Coordinator. Since taking on this role at the beginning of December, I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the staff and students. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for the rest of the year!
I reside in the Atlee area of Hanover with my husband, Tommy, and our three children, Lyla (8), Hagen (6), and Josie (1). We love being on the water, going on adventures, and having dance parties in the living room. Depending on who has the remote, we could be dancing to Luke Combs, Taylor Swift, or Baby Shark!
My career in Education began in Henrico County as a Kindergarten teacher after earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education from Radford University. In my first years as a classroom teacher, I earned my Masters of Education through the University of Virginia, and became a certified Reading Specialist. After five years, I began teaching fourth grade and was assigned the gifted cluster of students. To focus my instruction on better meeting those students’ needs, I went back to school at the University of Richmond to earn my Gifted Endorsement. Two years later, I became a Title I Reading Coach. This position provided me the opportunity to work with all grades at the elementary level. I achieved my National Board Certification in the area of Literacy in 2014 and most recently completed a Post-Master’s certificate in Administration and Supervision from Longwood University.
As you can see, I join the NBLC staff with much experience in Henrico County. Twelve of my thirteen years of teaching experience were spent at Ridge Elementary School, with one year being at Johnson Elementary. One of my personal goals at Ridge was to increase Family Engagement each year in collaboration with other key staff members, such as the Family Advocate. This is equally important to me as I embark on this new journey. I am looking forward to the relationships and partnerships I will form with our students, staff, parents, and community members. Please stop in and say hello if you have time, my door is always open!
